Typography

Designing type for da in print – reuse eventually [unit s1], we wanted to experiment with how efficiently we could design characters but at the same time achieve an interesting result aesthetically. We ultimately arrived at a Simplified Chinese typeface which is based on a strict system of straight and horizontal lines + 45° angles. Following this system resulted in glyphs which are simplified visually but which achieve a sort of cyber-punk, futurist aesthetic. Additionally, the simple nature of the system and resulting structure of each glyph allows for quick expansion of the character set as production time has been brought down to a minimum.
